We're Hosting a Nitrate Packing and Shipping Workshop!

Does your institution have nitrate film in its collection that needs to be shipped? As a hazardous material, nitrate film is highly regulated and those that pack and ship the medium are required to be certified. We have arranged for such training on Thursday March 30th that can be taken either in-person at our facility in Fort Washington, PA or virtually.

Nitrate Packing and Shipping Workshop & Certification

Thursday March 30, 2023

10:30 am – 3:30 pm ET (includes 30 min lunch break)

Attend in-person or virtually

Fulfill your nitrate film packing and shipping training requirement with a hands-on or virtual workshop!

Nitrate film is classified as a hazardous material and thus has strict packing and shipping regulations. Certification must be renewed every two years. This half-day workshop will provide attendees with all the relevant regulatory information to be able to pack and ship nitrate film. Here is a chance to train new employees or to renew your existing DG/hazmat training without incurring the cost of a personal training session. Sponsored by George Blood LP, the class is exclusively about Nitrocellulose film shipping. This half-day, UN1324 workshop, is open to any level of expertise.

Robert Smith of CARGOpak will lead the formal regulatory training interspersed with tips and tricks provided by chair of AMIA’s Nitrate Committee, Rachel Del Gaudio. After the instruction, there will be hands-on training before the workshop concludes with an open-book test.

The in-person workshop is being hosted at George Blood LP at 502 West Office Center Drive, Fort Washington, PA 19034 (about 45 minutes north of Philadelphia International Airport). As packing and shipping is a hands-on activity, we recommend that attendees within driving distance join us for the workshop.

The virtual workshop will be a monitored streaming session of the in-person workshop. Attendees will learn the same information and receive the same certification. A certificate will be issued to each registrant who passes the test.

Workshop registration is through the Association of Moving Image Archivists. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nitrate-packing-and-shipping-workshop-certification-tickets-505507535647

Registration for in-person or virtual is $150 for AMIA members and $175 for non-members.

Registration deadline is noon ET on Wednesday March 22.
